Microsofts next XBOX (Xbox One)

Recommended Posts

I find it funny and also quite revealing for Microsoft that they haven't even advertised the newest XBOX 360.

It's still not available on amazon.com as of right now - even though they stated they'd ship it starting right at E3. lol

Step in the right direction

But I think theyve made their future intentions clear and I have no doubt there will be things creaping in of the same nature. The fact such a big company has admited that theyve fuxxed up is very dishonourable and if they have messed up something that bad, even from their own perspective then you can bet theyre doing other things wrong too.

As Ive said though, Im not buying a next gen console for at least a year after release so I can see how all the pieces have fallen.

And here's the official statement:

Last week at E3, the excitement, creativity and future of our industry was on display for a global audience.

For us, the future comes in the form of Xbox One, a system designed to be the best place to play games this year and for many years to come. As is our heritage with Xbox, we designed a system that could take full advantage of advances in technology in order to deliver a breakthrough in game play and entertainment. We imagined a new set of benefits such as easier roaming, family sharing, and new ways to try and buy games. We believe in the benefits of a connected, digital future.

Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One.

You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc. The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you. Also important to you is the freedom to play offline, for any length of time, anywhere in the world.

So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:

  • An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games– After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

  • Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today â€“ There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions.

These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.

We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds.

Thank you again for your candid feedback. Our team remains committed to listening, taking feedback and delivering a great product for you later this year.

Personally, I appreciate their change of mind. However, I don't like how they're sucking up to gamers now. It could've all been avoided if they'd listened to the community from the start.

Still not convinced by the XBOX One, particularly with the built-in Kinect. I don't need that thing and I don't want it.

I want to play games without being possibly watched by the company that provides the console (or any other company for that matter).

Good, would have been annoying had it turned out to have the better games but the whole thing ended up being ruined by silly restrictions.

Even with the turn around, whole things a PR nightmare still. Still it's a step in the right direction.

I just have a massive feeling they'll just bring all this in again a year or two down the line.

Then again all I play these days is COD on Live and the odd indie horror game on my PC so I guess all that matters to me is that I like the controller!

Been confirmed now that family share only let you play the game for 15-30 minutes and then prompted you to pay for the game. So that features not a great loss.

It's been ditched completely you are able to share the game disc with anyone as normal.

  • 1 month later...

I'm going to wait to see what they're actually like when they're released.

PS4 obviously looks better from the launch.

But thats because Xbox placed too much focus on the television side of it.

The PS4 looks to have better internal specs but then the original Xbox had better specs than the PS2 and the PS3 had better specs than the Xbox 360 but both lost.

To my mind the PS4 looks like the perfect device for somebody wanting to simply purchase a game and play it. I want a bit more than that though and Xbox Live pisses all over PS+. I'm not interested in the two free games a month argument PS+ just isn't as good full stop.

I also think the new Kinect will be what we wanted the original to be and that MS's 300K servers will allow gameplay possibilities in the future that Sony wont be able to match.

Simple specs don't tell anything like the story for me. The argument has been dominated by PS fans shouting about every single difference when stuff like DRM will be 100% in place on both systems within the lifetime of the next gen. There is no way that digital sales will not be mandatory 5 years from now.

Dont let 300K servers fool you if you think they'll all be for gaming think again the only major difference i fount from playing on both xbox live and psn is the cross game chat Gears still lagged like a bitch cod still lagged like a bitch and was peer 2 peer like PSN makes me laugh people paid(me included) 40 quid a year to play on P2P network that's why the host advantage existed on almost every game.

Pre-ordered today, hope I get it on launch.

Amazingly, I read the Xbox One is actually wiping the floor with the PS4 in the pre order charts somewhere. Dunno if it was bollocks or not.

If it's true really does prove any there is no such thing as bad publicity.
