Has Anyone Booked a Holiday Yet?

Recommended Posts

My passport ran out in covid and I never got round to redoing it. Will get my picture done at a registered place, as the online system thinks I've got my eyes closed, am in shadow and am wearing a scarf.

My leave runs out end of July, so can see myself doing a few bitty days in June/ early July and then going abroad around September/October, once the kids are back in school.

Sounds good! Worth getting on with getting your passport sorted fairly soon as there have been huge delays at some passport offices.

Anyone flew BA since 1st May, asking as in ‘my booking’ part it has the proof of vaccination and locator style forms which it looks to be guiding you to do otherwise says you might not be allowed on board but I thought from 1st May all that had stopped to most European destinations.

Im going Lisbon btw and sure nothing is required if fully vaccinated

Look at the country you are going to as it can vary…

I was working in Holland Belgium last week…. No locator form required, nobody ask for proof of vaccination status…. On the way back with EasyJet they didn’t even ask people to wear masks on the flight

Compare that to coming back from Rome (EasyJet also) they wouldn’t even let a fellow fox on the flight until I gave him a spare FFP2 mask I had  😷!

So…. Go onto gov.uk - check the requirements and take an FFP2…. Expect the best and prepare for the worst!

Impulse booked a trip to Riga when I realised there was a four day weekend in June. Had €200 built up in Accor credit so my room ended up costing me around £4 total.

Not sure what's there, I'm going to play it by ear.

I went around 2013 with a mate and definitely one to be careful with the bars you go in. But it might have got better since then.

The place we were staying had a black list of bars that we half paid attention to and then ended up on our third day in one that gave me bad vibes as soon as we walked in (my mate thought it was fine). Turns out it was one on the black list as it ran the famous scam they pull there of two hot Russian girls coming over to sit with you (even if you don’t want them to), ordering drinks (even if you haven’t offered) and the bill being astronomical (€300 for two waters sort of astronomical) - some Eastern European bouncers then offering you either the chance to pay or a beating.

Fortunately we agreed that I’d Google it whilst he got the beers in and horror story after horror story came up so we necked our drinks instantly and left. A few Brazilian lads staying at the same place as us fell foul of it however.

Apart from that we had fun. Paid about £40 to go to a shooting gallery and fire some AK47s, pistols and pump-action shotguns with some Latvian instructor who didn’t speak any English. That was well worthwhile.

I'm not one to go wandering into strange bars anyway, especially not by myself, but yes I've heard that's a danger.

Not booked yet, but I'm looking for something a bit different for a holiday and I've come across The Gambia. Has anyone on here ever been there? Would you recommend it? Is it safe? From what I've seen so far it looks like a beautiful country with a decent mix of beach holiday, city exploration and even a (somewhat watered down) safari type experience.

Be prepared to be pestered by the bumsters. Nice place though.

Had to Google "bumsters" to see what you're talking about. I've experienced similar things in a couple of other countries (Tunisia was quite bad for it). I'd imagine they're harmless enough as long as long as you politely decline what they're offering and don't do anything to provoke them

Anyone been to Puerto Pollensa in Majorca? Just booked there for July.

Is very nice especially the Pine Walk with nice quiet bars like Hotel Sis Pins, Cappacino, you’ll find loads of nice places, plenty of places to choose from. Some very nice restaurants in the town and good bars but don’t expect it to be lively late at night. Make sure you visit Pollensa old town ( about 10 minutes in taxi or catch the bus… some good restaurants such as Onze in the main square, good food and great service) and the square atmosphere in the square is great. Also take a taxi out for an evening/night to Alcudia old town, again some good bars and if you like steak try Basico Steak House, very very good ( need to book so you can sit in the the courtyard, very pretty, and don’t make the mistake of thinking it’s the Basico Gastropub, it isn’t )

Restaurants are in the eye of the beholder but for Puerto Pollensa I can recommend Stay on the marina with amazing sunsets, Amazo with really excellent food at good price,  La Llonja for views across the marina and fantastic, Abbaco  (mostly veggie but really good food, I was “turned”) and if you can be bothered try Modesto in Cala San Vicente, a 20 minute taxi trip but a really lovely small restaurant in a lovely setting ( you will need a taxi ride to get there and back but they will sort for you and again fantastic steaks)

Wherever you choose to eat I strongly recommend you book in advance as the good places get booked up in advance.

Hope that helps.

Brilliant thanks. We've got two kids with us and from what I can gather it's a lot quieter and less partying than other places. Suits us fine as we're not drinkers and the kids love the beach/pool and there's a good park and football pitch at the hotel.

Will save all of the above info on my phone and check it out - thanks.

The kids will be love the sea as it’s so very very calm in the bay and will be warm by July.

Going to Almeria for 2 weeks tomorrow. Flights at 6.05am so will be at Man Airport at a ridiculous time with 2 young children. Should be fun lol I'm expecting the airport to be an horrible experience so hopefully we get lucky and it isn't that bad :fc:

Back from Santorini now, had a great time.

I can see why there were differing opinions on it now though, it’s certainly not a party island and with the beaches not being the best it would make it difficult to recommend it purely for chilling on a beach but the whole island really does have a special feel about it.

The views are insane from nearly every spot on the island, the towns/villages are stunning with the narrow winding streets and cave houses.

Wasnt a huge fan of the yanks clapping sun sets though.

My new home :) Whereabouts in Almería? In the city itself? Or elsewhere in the province like I am?

I'm staying in Roquetas De Mar, hoping to get into the city itself this time as didn't bother last time we were here.

Going to Las Vegas this September.  Any tips on things to do, places to eat, casinos and nightlife will be welcomed!

I also tried to search past Las Vegas posts on here but Foxestalk appears to lack functionality to search keywords in a specific topic?
