Has Anyone Booked a Holiday Yet?

Recommended Posts

Flying out to Gran Canaria on the 13th for a week, first holiday in 3 years so looking forward to it, nothing fancy just sun, beach, pool and all-inclusive. Not having to think about or plan anything for a week. Lovely stuff.

Flying from Manchester, though, in the middle of the afternoon which is a bit worrying. It seems 50/50 whether its a painless, straightforward experience or an absolute nightmare, seemingly at random. Hoping we don't get caught up in any of that.

Seen some bad videos on social media of people flying out from Manchester! que's the whole way through the airport, hopefully you'll be alright though and enjoy!

Our theory is that the worst time to fly out is 6am because there are so many flights early morning.  We few out mid/late pm 2 months ago and sailed through security.  The problems started when we were queueing for the flight (there was another at the same time so great confusion entailed) in the narrow corridor of terminal 3 .

I wouldn't say there's a hard & fast rule, though. Maybe we just struck lucky.

I've seen most of the complaints about terminal 1/3 and flying with TUI, but we're terminal 2 with Jet2 so I'm hopeful that we'll be lucky. We've got the lounge booked though, so can go earlier than planned and if it goes through smoothly then at least we've got somewhere to relax until the flight.

We usually fly from EMids but I've moved up to manchester now so convinced the other half to go from here instead. Then about a week after we booked all these issues started coming to light lol Typical

Will be worth it once we're out there, though :D

Finally spoke to TUI this morning after being on hold forever. After some internet based researched on my supposed cancelled flight, I found it’s actually been delayed by 10 hours.

Upon telling TUI this, they’ve turned around to me and said we can book you on that, it’ll be another £2k!!! They’ve even refused me compensation! So I’ve had the refund which could take up to 14 days to get back to me.

So I’m currently looking for alternative destinations this summer.

Not using those crooks.

Going to Las Vegas this September.  Any tips on things to do, places to eat, casinos and nightlife will be welcomed!

I also tried to search past Las Vegas posts on here but Foxestalk appears to lack functionality to search keywords in a specific topic?

The world buffet at Rio used to be amazing if its still there definitely go for a meal! Linked with Paris so you can get a free shuttle bus as its just off the strip. You can walk it though. Secret Pizza at the cosmopolitan is incredible to best pizza i've ever had. It isn't signed posted anywhere and it is hidden behind a secret door. I wont give it away where it is and if you do find it then try and find Ghost Donkey. Its a secret cocktail in the cosmopolitan.

I played in a poker tournament in the cosmopolitan last time i went and must say its a whole different world. Bloke next to me had a full body massage whilst playing!

You can get free drinks when gambling, my tip would be if you get offered one tip big ($10 but this was back in 2010) on the first one if you intend to stay for a while as they will come back to you every time first.

Freemont street is worth a visit to see the old style casinos and it is a lot cheaper to drink and eat, go to the heart attack grill if you like BIG burgers one of their burgers is about 5000 calories.

The bus (the Deuce) is by far the easiest way to get around just hop on and off all day (and i think it runs 24 hours). A very good outlet mall at the end (luxor end) so good bargains if you want to go shopping.

If you have never been it the first thing that will hit you is just how big it is. I couldn't get over it the first time i went. But i absolutely love it, been 4 times now.

The nightclubs are all a bit meh and to be honest werent really my vibe. Had to queue separately from my mrs which was ridiculous really. Once we both got in we lasted about an hour.

Grand Canyon is worth it if that is your kind of thing, its expensive to get there and back and its a massive tourist trap as i am sure you can imagine but it is stunning. I went in June when i went and it was 48 degrees!

I’ve got a holiday booked with Tui/first choice in July. Not very confident it’s going to go ahead seen loads of people saying they are going to go bust.

As far as I can see it’s mainly impacted at Manchester?  A quarter of the flights - really bad

i can see no evidence to suggest they’re about to fold? At least I hope not as I’m flying to Greece with them in July…. Have you read something I haven’t seen?

I was due to go to Verona for a long weekend at the beginning of September, I have opera festival tickets hanging over from 2020.

The direct flights from Manchester that were there a month ago seem to have disappeared leaving only Gatwick.

The cost was about 60% more than two years ago and the chaos surrounding flights at the minute has persuaded me to give it a miss.

Airports really do need an overhaul, having to wait hours before you board a flight is ridiculous even in normal times.

I remember when I slept in the airport at night for 3 nights because hotels where to expensive when we was backpacking I dunno how I managed it tbh the thought of going on planes terrifies me now for some reason mainly the pissing about and waiting to get to your destination, then when you get on the plane you have to wait even more.

Does it show that the UK is struggling for airport space, is building more airports the answer. Considering the increasing population and the demand to get to and from the UK. The midlands alone big region as it is only as two airports, Birmingham which considering is the second city is airport to small for demand. East Midlands covers three major cities in Leicester, Derby and Nottingham.

My recollection is that Birmingham Airport operates (at least it was pre-Covid) at quite a low capacity, because of a lack of demand from airlines (and I guess that being partly a consequence of demand from customers). I remember ranting about it when they were talking about yet another runway at Heathrow.

Is there anything to do in Malaga? Booked 3 nights there end of June. I’ll be ‘working’ two of the days from the hotel so as to save leave. Any standout things to do/see? We don’t have all inclusive so won’t be able to eat myself into a stupor

Out of interest, has the hotel got guaranteed wifi?

We ended up at the Golden Corral most evenings to eat. All-inclusive buffet which cost about $60 for a family of four.

Excellent VFM and a massive choice that should suit everyone.

Have fun mate. We've been to Orlando four times and three of those with Virgin who were excellent.

Miller's on international drive is a great pub and a lot English hang out. Staff friendly, prices are pretty decent compared to others.

Anyone know what travel is like in New York? Is the Subway equivalent to the London underground or much more expensive?

Me and a mate are going in July for a wedding and have a bit of time to explore the City afterwards. But the hotel is a fair bit out from the central attractions so would need to either cab or get the Subway in.

Malaga is a beautiful city imo

Brits fly there and leave for the coast so when people usually say they are going to Malaga they aren't.

Good food readily available.

Go up to the top of the hill overlooking the city, fantastic views including the round bull ring which looks great.
