Has Anyone Booked a Holiday Yet?

Where did you stay mate?

What did you get up to whilst you were there?

I stayed at Linq-  think you might have missed that in my original post.    I think @Stevenwas spot on,  if you want value for money and are not fussed about the reputation then Linq is definitely worth a go  (I saw some bad reviews online and was paniciking a bit but it turned out to be absolutely fine)  but if you want to experience all of the glam then do stay one of more famous hotels but I do not know whether if there are any difference in the rooms but the difference in the aesthitics of casions are noticable.

I did the gambling in the Strip,  Freemont Street,  Mob Museum  (not bad but like all museums even the interesting ones,  it just drag on at the end),  Topgolf  (took ages to get to there through MGM casino!),  escape room and Emerald Cove Kayak tour where I kayaked in Colorado River.  That was an obvious highlight and nice to escape the craziness.   I paid close to £100 for it and it was just a hour or so's drive in a shuttle van.    Some of my mates also did quad biking in Mojave Desert but they all felt it was overrated as they all rode in a straight line on a flat track on edge of the desert.    I also did not went to Grand Canyon as I have been before and it was four hours drive each way but if you have not then I would recommend it as a must do-   it may be much cheaper to hire your own car depending the number in your party instead of going via coach tour.   None of my mates who travelled regret going.

We were supposed to go to Stratosphere but ran out of time (I have already went before so was not fussed).   I also tried to go to some kind of Neon graveyeard close to Freemont Street but the tickets have to be prebooked in evenings.   I also wanted to do poker but did not get around to it in the end but if you are keen then Bally Casino is the best place for it.     I also went to a pool party in Flamingos which was lot of fun-  I think it was free but the drinks were quite expensive.    I arrived just before lunchtime and left when it was getting dark as it was looking like people would start losing their lunch in the swimming pools.

Do save up much as you can before you go. Drinks are mad expensive (10-12 dollars for a pint which is often rubbish and 14-16 dollars for mixers)-  we did not really had a mad night out cause some of people in my group were on budget while others only drank beers and get all gassed in the end.

Looking at going Tromso in Norway for a few days next year, anyone been before with recommendations? Been looking at doing snowmobiling, reindeer sledding and whale watching so far

I've only been for the day, but a lovely town. We went on the Fjellheisen Cable Car, the Arctic Cathedral and a walk around the town. We have done a snow mobile trip but in Iceland, highly recommend as a trip.

If you are going in the summer months, the 24/7 daylight is an experience.

My main tip for Norway, extend the limit on your credit card :D

Make sure you go during Northern lights season or it's not worth it.

Very expensive even by Norway standards. (£12 a small beer)

The dog sledding is brilliant, but you run out of things to do within 2-3 days.

Thanks for that. Dont suppose youve been Iceland before? If so would you say things are similarly priced?

Iceland is cheaper.

Much more to do and one of the most amazing countries going. Food awful and accomodation is expensive.

If we go again I would go for a campervan, you can camp anywhere in Iceland and most attractions have a car park with toilet so they become unofficial campsites at night.

FYI, long weekend in Tromso in the winter is well well worth it. The northern lights are truly stunning.

It's the most northern, most remote and most touristy part of a well expensive country!

Check out the cheap eats on TripAdvisor.

There was a fish restaurant in a market and a gaming bar with decent burgers. Unless you are a Russian oligarch you won't be getting leathered though!

Will do, street food is fine by me for a few days. Not a fan of the local cuisine?

Have you looked for apartments on Airbnb? When we went to Iceland and Sweden, we had to go for 7 nights due to the flights. We booked an apartment so we could eat in a few nights and make lunches.  Which did save loads on eating out. And the apartment costs were similar to hotels.

Yeah ive looked on Airbnb having used them on previous trips and found it to be pretty decent value in comparison with hotels. Thatll be the route i go down i think as like you said you can save loads eating in. How did you find Sweden?

Best place to exchange pounds for Euros?

Never used them myself, but I believe Covent Garden FX are meant to offer the best rates. You can order from them online as well as go in person. I tend to pre-order currency and collect from the airport if I am flying (you can get much better rates pre-ordering than if you turn up on the day), although recently discovered going from Gatwick that the usual providers had moved on.

Nah a whole host of credit cards these days with zero charges and better fx rates than the high st. I predominantly use Revolut and Barclaycard when abroad.

Mine charge 2.75% per transaction.

Tesco credit card so not really as good.
