Starting his career north of the border with Linton Villa, Parkhead and Clyde, the Scottish inside-forward moved south with Liverpool in 1899 before making the switch to Fosse just a year later and going on to make over 30 appearances in a one-year spell.
He managed only five appearances in all appearances for Liverpool but did manage more regular action in his sole campaign with Fosse, although only managed four goals in 32 matches in all competitions.
He was known more for his creative ability and moved to West Ham United and then Kettering but his off-the-field conduct brought him plenty of problems, with several suspending or sacking him for various breaches of discipline.
