Sunderland-born Jobling came through the City ranks and was given the chance to shine with the first-team under Bryan Hamilton but never really made the grade, making just nine league appearances for the club.
A midfielder, Jobling made his first-team debut at Newcastle United towards the end of the 1986-87 campaign but when David Pleat came in he was soon on his way out, with a move to Grimsby Town coming midway through the following season, where Phil Turner came in the opposite direction.
He didn’t enjoy his start with the Mariners, suffering relegation to the bottom tier of the Football League, but he did help them to back-to-back promotions and ended up amassing 331 senior appearances for them. He moved on to play for Shrewbury but City and Grimsby played a testimonial game for him.
