He may have only made one appearance in the Midland League for Fosse, but he played a much more important role in being one of the founding members of Fosse at the age of 17.
He was secretary and treasurer and played as half-back in the club's first friendly fixture against Syston Fosse. He also helped form the Leicestershire FA and went on to become president.
His only game on record game against Doncaster Rovers on Boxing Day 1891 in the Midland League, but his concentration was more on the off-the-field things. He was treasurer of the Leicester and District League and also made the switch to become a referee.
