Hodgson will live in City history as being the first player for the club on Match of the Day. That goal came in City's 3-2 home victory over Nottingham Forest in October 1964, midway through his two-season stint at Filbert Street.
The Glaswegian arrived at Leicester from Sheffield United and made his debut in an away clash at Bolton Wanderers in September 1963. He could play in a variety of forward positions and scored 15 goals in all competitions from more than 60 appearances.
During his two seasons he enjoyed good success in the League Cup with the Foxes, making the semi-finals in 1964 before going one better and making the final against Chelsea a year later, although he had to make do with a runners-up medal.
He went on to play for Derby County and Rotherham United amongst other clubs after his stint at Filbert Street before returning to Bramall Lane in coaching position.
