Cousin of fellow Fox James Dunne, Thomas followed Shamrock Rovers teammate Tommy Godwin to Leicester in November 1949 but had to wait a while to get his chance to shine in the first team.
A Dublin-born wing-half, who'd won the FAI Cup with Shamrock, Dunne finally got his debut in February 1951 at Cardiff City. But shortly after getting a run in the first team, Dunne lost his place to the incoming Eddie Russell midway through the Foxes 1954 promotion campaign.
It meant, after 33 league appearances for the club, he moved on in search of first-team football with Exeter City, Shrewsbury Town and Southport. Despite him being at the club alongside his cousin Jimmy for a year, the pair never played together.
