Leadgate-born Hedley was a right-back who spent a year in the blue and white of Fosse and made 38 appearances in league and cup after being brought in to bolster the club's defensive options towards the end of their 1908 promotion push.
Starting his career with West Stanley, he went on to play for Middlesbrough, Chester-le-Street, north of the border with Hearts and then at Hull City before Fosse snapped him up. As well as aiding Fosse's promotion, he was a regular in the top flight too as Fosse struggled to avoid an immediate return to the second tier of English football.
He moved on to play for Luton Town, Hartlepool, Crook Town and Jarrow Caledonians before the war.
