Bristol-born goalkeeper Lewis arrived at Fosse at the latter end of his career and played just one season between 1906-07 but proved to be a shrewd capture.
Playing twice for Bristol City, as well as Everton, Sheffield United and Sunderland, Lewis made his debut against Burslem Port Vale in September 1906 and was an ever-present in his sole successful season at the club.
It was Lewis’s best season but hometown club Bristol came calling for a third time and he could not resist a return to finish his career back home.
His sporting career didn’t finish there with Lewis continuing his cricket life, playing for Somerset and going on to coach the game in India.
