Dilks started his career with Daventry Town before having stints with Northampton Town, where he made his name, and Reading, where he played just three games for the Royals.
He was reported to be unhappy to be away from his Northants/Leicestershire home and returned to play for Fosse in October 1903, making his debut in a home clash against Grimsby Town in the same month.
He played on the left wing and featured in Fosse's rock-bottom campaign in 03-04, playing eight league games in total and one FA Cup clash before going on for spells with Wellingborough and Northampton Town.
