Plymouth-born Coles made his Foxes debut in September 1902, in what was a late start to the season, and it was to be his last outing. Fosse visited Chesterfield and lost 5-0 - it was to be Coles's one and only performance in the blue shirt.
He'd made the move to Leicester in August of the same year from Brighton & Hove Albion but he was criticised for his performance on his Fosse debut and that criticism had a lasting impact on his short time at the club. He returned to Brighton just four months later and, after his career came to an end, he went on to be an insurance agent despite being the son of a dentist.
