The Nottingham-born outside-right actually had trials with Fosse in March 1894 but the club didn’t secure his services on the back of performances in friendly matches against Stockport, Rangers and Loughborough.
It was only six years later that he became a fully-fledged Fosse player and went on to make 14 appearances in the league, chipping in with a couple of goals along the way. He spent time with Hucknall Portland, South Shore, Notts County and Bristol City before returning to the club.
It was not a big success, however, and a move to Doncaster Rovers swiftly followed just a year later. He went on to play for Gainsborough and had another stint with Rovers before finishing his career with Lincoln City.
