Notching an impressive 36 goals as top-scorer in Wellington Town’s Birmingham League campaign of 1927-28, his form caught the attention of the City scouts and he was quickly snapped-up on completion of that campaign.
It took time for the Wolverhampton-born inside-forward to adapt to a higher level of football, however, and his stay at the club came mainly as a reserve player and back-up to the first team on City’s return to the top flight towards the end of the 1920s.
He amassed just 15 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals, and to his credit always put in a good shift when called-upon. Queens Park Rangers secured his services but match action continued to be few and far between before moves to Wellington Town and Kidderminster Harriers followed.
