South Shields striker Davison was brought in by Brian Little as a bit of a stop-gap following a pre-season injury to David Lowe, and he saw his time cut short thanks to the emergence of a certain Julian Joachim at the club.
Davison had numerous clubs to his name when he arrived at Filbert Street, having started his career at Red Duster and Sea Colliery Welfare before Huddersfield Town found his talents and he became stuck on a bit of a Yorkshire club merry-go-round. Spells at Halifax Town, Leeds United and Sheffield United, the latter on-loan, followed, as well as a stint at Derby County before he finally found his way to Leicester.
He played 25 times in the league for the Foxes, scoring six goals, but he didn't impress Little enough to extend his spell beyond 'stop-gap' status. Steve Walsh's conversion to a central role, as well as the return of Lowe and the performances of Joachim, saw him move back to Sheffield United after initially joining the Blades on loan.
Spells with Rotherham United, Hull City, Halifax Town and Guiseley followed, and he even tried his hand as player-manager of the latter Leeds club. He went on to become youth coach at Bradford City and then assistant manager at Valley Parade before Sheffield United took him over to Ferencvaros, who were the Blades' feeder club in all-but name. He was an advisor at the Hungarian club before taking the head coach's role just a few months later. He helped the side to promotion but then paid with his job when results didn't go well in the top flight early the following season.
